Suggest Treatment For Nausea And Kidney Stone

Question: Hi passed a 4mm kidney stone on Sep 18. Than on the morning of Sep 19, I woke up with nausea. From then until now (one month) I have been waking up with a wave of nausea in the morning and usually another waves of nausea in the evening. Also I can still feel some minor pain in my back which was due from the stone scratching up the ureter. There is no infection and no problems with my kidneys, my primary doctor has just been telling me that the sore ureter from the kidney stone is upsetting my stomach. Its already been one month and I still have these problems with the minor flank pain and nausea does that sound normal? Is it true that a ureter can take 4 to 8 weeks to heal?

Brief Answer:
needs evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Nausea and vomiting are fairly common on patients with uretetic colic and usuallydhould have subsided after the stone has passed. In your case it is rather unusual that you still have waves of nausea. There could be further stones in the tract causing mild obstruction. There could be associated infection as well. If you have not had a scan done in the past one month, it might be a good idea to get a CT scan of KUB now. This should pick up any stone and any suggestion of obstruction. A completed urine analysis could help pick up any pus cells suggestive of infection. Antibiotics in such a scenario will improve your symptoms. There also could be gastritis nor related to your pady issue but you fan continue neksium. Ondansetron 4mg thrice daily before meals could help reduce nausea as a symptom.
Hope I have been of help.
Regards.

Actually I was at the emergency room 2 weeks ago and they took x-rays, cat scans, and urine and blood. They did not find any infection or left over stones. I was drinking plenty water to keep myself clean of them. It's weird, I never had these stomach problems until the day after I passed the stone. I still can feel the minor pain in the ureter where the stone passed but I don't have any infections or anything.

Brief Answer:
maybe a gastroenterologist consultation

Detailed Answer:
As a matter of fact, I did anticipate that your urology team would have completed a thorough workup and if they did not find a stone or infection which would account for your symptoms, maybe you need a consultation by a gastroenterologist. An upper GI endoscopy could help clarify if there is any stomach issue such as an erosion.
As I said earlier ondansetron tablets will reduce retching and vomiting and maybe a suspension of sucralfate will reduce any further symptoms of gastritis along with neksium which you already are taking.
Let me know your progress. Will be glad to help.
