Suggest Treatment For Nasal And Throat Congestion With Dizziness

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Sep 2016
Question: I have been having balance and dizziness problems since January. Have been to an ENT who sent me for extensive inner-ear tests, only to find nothing wrong there. Have been to a Neuroolgist who tells me I have a small Menengioma (sp?) but that it is not causing these issues. Recommended Topomax. However it did not help. I do have nasal and throat congestion. However, I am on Valsartan and cannot take decongestants. I am so frustrated, as no one can give a diagnosis. Can you suggest any other factor that might be causing this? Every morning, I get a flush that starts at base of skull, resulting to a fullness in ears and head and lasts all day.

Brief Answer:
Other conditions to be considered.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Balance problems may be caused by several conditions such: inner ear dysfunction, joints, muscles or vision problems (muscles weakness, unstable joints, vision problems), side effects of drugs, neurological conditions such cervical spondylosis, peripheral neuropathy, etc.

Dizziness, in the other hand, may be related to conditions such benign positional paroxysmal vertigo, Meniere's disease, viral infections of the equilibrium nerve(s), migraine, cerebello-pontine angle tumors.

If meningioma is located near the equilibrium nerve, it may cause dizziness, if not, then meningioma is not responsible for the dizziness.

Valsartan can actually cause dizziness as a side effect.

Also changes i blood pressure and arrythmias may be related to such symptoms.

In my opinion, valsartan should be substituted and cardiovascular conditions need to be considered as possible causes of your concerns, since ENT and neurological evaluation didn't found any explanation.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
