I AM THINKING BACK AND AS YOUNG AS ABT 12 I WAS HAVING PAIN IN MY UPPER BACK WHEN I WAS ASKED TO SWEEP A LIGHT SNOWFALL OF THE SIDEWALK.

Myesthenia is caused due to Autoimmunity.

Myesthenia Gravis is an autoimmune disease . Autoimmune disease means the body produces certain proteins which attacks body's own tissues or organs. In Myesthenia Gravis the body produces proteins ( Antibodies ) to nerve muscle junction and destroys some component of it . This in turn leads to muscle weakness as the muscle cannot get proper signals from the nerves.
The exact cause is not known properly , but some of the possible causes are
1. Genetics : The disease may be inherited.
2. Thymus gland hyperactvity.
3. Viral infections in childhood trigerring the autoimmunity in the body.
Myesthenia can begin at any point of life , though it would have started at an young age but it would have been very mild to be noticed by the patient.
Most common presenation of Myesthenia is weakness of doing usual routine physical activities . It doesn't cause pain . So , rather than at age 12 I think it was around 21 when you noticed doing a bed as a hard work.
May I know whether any tests has been done on you to diagnose Myesthenia?
Since Myesthenia is not caused by any environmental factors there is no differential prevalence of it in some areas , also the detection of Myesthenia is still low ( though it is increasing ) .
