Suggest Treatment For Muscular Pain And Costrochondritis

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Jul 2015
Question: This was an advice I received almost a week ago;
For muscular pain and costrochondritis I would advice you to do hot fomentation of the affected area and apply Diclofenac and methol containing over the country gels locally. Since the pain is not severe I would not recommend use of any oral pain killers.

The pain comes as sudden stings but does not last long.
I don't always feel 'pain' but slight discomfort when the pain spreads to my lower abdomen. There is not pain during my sleep - unless I sleep on the left side - but very mild.
If this is an infection - shall I use a medication to stop or control it ?
How long will it take to go away ?

Brief Answer:
I need details.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, Welcome Back to HCM. Last time, i have taken your query for the matter of chest pain and attributed the probability of Muscular pain based on the symptoms.
Now, to help you in a better way, i would like to know a few more further details:
1. Have you been doing hot fomentation and applying Diclofenac ointment since a week?
2. How is the pain now? Has the pain shown any improvement or has worsen?
3. Any fever? Any cough or breathlessness?
I need these details to reconsider the diagnosis and decide further treatment options for you.

Thanks Dr. XXXXXXX - I wanted to specifically reconnect with you to continue our discussion.

1. No I didn't do the fomentation or applying Diciofenac - I will try that today.

2. The pain feels in one place most of the time. I think it has become more frequently felt.
3. No fever or cough or breathlessness - movement or exercising does not make it worse.

Does it normally spread?
Shall I take antibiotics ?

Brief Answer:
Muscular pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Hot fomentation and the gel is not going to make you all right in a single application. You shouod practice that for at least a week.
There is no indication of taking Any antibiotics as your history doesn't suggest any evidence of Pneumonia.
In my opinion you should do hot fomentation and apply Diclofenac gel at least 4-6 times a day.
Even if it persists after a week get a Chest X-Ray and ECG done.
