Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
You have mentioned that your mother is suffering from multiple myeloma since 2011 and she has been on treatment.
The aim of the treatment is to bring the patient in remission phase and to pick up any recurrence well within time.
A regular follow up is must.
During follow up, disease is monitored with serum levels of hemoglobin, beta 2 microglobulin, calcium and creatinine.
Hemoglobin levels should remain above 11-12 gm%, there should be no drastic fall.
Serum calcium should be in range, increase in calcium levels beyond the normal range is acceptable since it indicates deterioration of kidney functions.
Beta 2 microglobulin level should remain below 4 microgram/ mL.
There is no specific food restriction.
Balanced nutrition food especially XXXXXXX in proteins and anti-oxidants will help.
Multiple myeloma can affect the kidney functions thus kidney functions need to monitored.
Serum levels of calcium and creatinine are good markers of kidney functions.

If you have more queries, I will be glad to answer.

Thanks and take care
Dr Shailja Puri
