Posted on Sat, 31 May 2014
Question: I have a red line running from about 2 inches above my anus that's about 3 inches long. It also has some dry skin attached to it, like scaling. It itches a little not too bad. Do you know what I could do for it and what it could be?

Brief Answer:
ANAL FISSURE LIKELY

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
I think you might be having anal fissure.
This is a mucosal tear in the lining of the lower anal canal.
Do you have associated symptoms apart from itching - constipation, diarrhoea, watery stools , bleeding / spotting in stools, pain during defecation etc ?
Since how long have you noticed this line ?
Can you please upload a picture.
Anal fissure can be diagnosed by a doctor by internal examination.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Take care.

Brief Answer:
AS BELOW

Detailed Answer:
10 g of unprocessed XXXXXXX twice daily and warm sitz baths for 15 minutes twice daily and after each bowel movement.
If that does not help, local ointments or as a last resort , surgery might help.
Please remember that this is just a tentative diagnosis.
For all you know, it could just be a superficial skin erosion due to dryness.
Only having a look can confirm.
Take care.
