Suggest Treatment For Moderate Hydronephrosis

default
Posted on Wed, 29 Oct 2014
Question: A little over a week ago I went to the ER with significant lower left quadrant back pain that radiated to the front of my abdomen. I had an abdominal CT scan which showed a cyst on my kidney, but no stones and my blood and urine were normal. I had an abdominal ultrasound follow up which showed moderate Hydronephrosis. The next text I had was an abdominal CT scan with contrast. This showed mild Hydronephrosis and a thickening at the collection part of the kidney. The doctor recommended a ureteroscopy next with a possible biopsy and stent. The doctor said he needs to rule out if it is inflammation or a tumor. Is there any other methods used to determine cancer? My blood and urine tests all were normal.

Brief Answer:
There is no other method .

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.

There is no other way to determine whether this is an inflammatory lesion or cancer.
Ureteroscopy allows a direct visualization and allows biopsy of the area. This is most important to get an early diagnosis and the best possible treatment.

This is the only method which allows to pass a stent and reduce the hydronephrosis and allow the kidney to function normally.

I hope my answer helps to take faster and clear decisions leading to an early diagnosis and proper treatment.

Wishing you all the best.
