Suggest Treatment For Massive Headaches And Vomiting In An Elderly Person

Question: My mother is 78. Twice now she has had a massive headache, lost control of bowels, vomited, all while being dizzy-then passes out. The first one was in July of last year. She had a UTI at the time so her GP gave her a shot of antibiotics and steroids. She had to have surgery to repair spinal cord damage from the fall. At that time it was chalked up as being a combination of dehydration and medication. Since then she has been getting more and more confused. Everyone (doctors and us) blamed the pain meds. However, that confusion has been getting worse since the July accident. Well, the exact same thing happened again today. The ambulance took her to the local ER where again we were told it was a combination dehydration and medication. Most of her medication has been changed since then. She did have a UTI two weeks ago but has since been on two rounds and antibiotics. Both of which she finished (we control her medication because she can't anymore). Is there something else we could be asking the doctors about? They did rule out heart attack and stroke both times.

Brief Answer:
Please ask about Alzheimer's too!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I will like your doctors to evaluate your mom for Alzheimer's. Seeing her age and progressive confusion and falls, it is important that see gets evaluated as this is the most common cause of confusion and memory challenges in elderly. Knowing the exact disease condition would guide in mobilizing the right resources needed to address her problem.

Also, a brain scan is very important as well in her evaluation at this time(saw that you've done the CT-scan already, please share the reports so that I can take a detailed look at it).

I hope this helps. I wish her well and do keep me posted.
Kind regards
