Suggest Treatment For Lumps On Calf

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Nov 2015
Question: There are a lot of questions about calf lumps, but I don't see any like mine. It's soft, not movable, about 4 inches above my heel, about 3 inches in diameter (fits in my palm), it's under the skin not in it, no redness or warmth, no swelling, bruising or history of injury, you can see it with my calf flexed or not, it's left of the middle of my calf, but not on the left side of my leg. It doesn't hurt per se, but a dull ache- I feel it, but can ignore it. If I mess with it, it feels more like a stingy sore feeling than a hurt. Not sure how long it's been there, but it's been a while and gotten bigger. I know there are several things that can cause lumps in calves, but I'm hoping this information will narrow down the possible answers. I'll get it checked out, but is it something that can wait or should I be concerned? I included 2 pictures in my profile under medical records.

Brief Answer:
Chronic Lump in calf/Under Investigation

Detailed Answer:
Brief Ans-Chronic Lump in calf/Under Investigation

Hi,Thanks for your detailed and elucidative query to HCM.
All your details could have been well supported with your 2 pictures, which I did not get or find under your medical records.

-Your Health Concern is-
A calf lump,3 inch big,soft/movable/not red, swollen either/visible in calf flexed or extended with dull ache/if pressed or messed with it,stingy sore feeling/lately getting bigger?Cause of it-?It needs to be investigated with all this incomplete information.
I would suggest you to get Second Opinion from a Surgeon, to recoup this defect in the available information.USG(UltaraSonoGraphy) study would resolve this ambiguity little more.
If need be your surgeon would do FNAC biopsy,as the lump is soft and not -Venous,as it seems from your story and facts.

-Still few questions remain to be answered along with lack of your 2 pictures, which you forgot to update by oversight-
Which side of the leg-right or left leg, you have this Calf lump?

-My Impression-
Based on the given information-You seem to have Sebaceous Cyst or a Lipoma of the Calf.?other causes need to be confirmed after giving above asked information.Possibility of Venous Calf Lump could be ruled out only after Colour doppler, being a female, but raises doubts about this diagnosis but for your young age.

Hope this reply would give you some guideline,on how to arrive at the cause of this unknown Lump.

I would wait for you to update 2 pictures of the calf lump, which I would review in next session.

Good Day!!

Left calf and both legs to compare.
I already used my 2 "follow-up questions" to say I uploaded the pictures, so now the site wants more money.

Brief Answer:
Chronic Lump in left calf/Under Investigation

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the updates. Sorry for the inconvenience.
I studied your pictures of the lump site in left lower calf area.

-Based on the facts of your query and of the picture,
In My Opinion, you seem to have Soft Tissue Tumor of the left leg below calf,in the starting portion of the Tendo-achilles of the left leg. The lump is not subcutaneous or from the veins but seems to be coming from the deep soft tissue in the lower portion of the calf muscles.

-Try to rule out any old leg/tendoachilles injury, as you are quiet young to have such a lump.

Plan of Diagnosis -Suggested
-I would suggest You to have a Consultation of Surgeon/ Ortho-Surgeon and get his Second Opinion after the Physical Examination, which is very important in deciding further investigation approach.
-Get US (Ultra Sonography)study to rule out any Hemangioma/Vascular tumors, of the soft tissue of the left leg/calf area.

-Get MRI scan done and which would resolve the other causes of your calf Lump as- Lipoma - of which Angiolipoma is the possibility in your case as the lump is stingy sore-due to pressure on the involved vessels.

Other causes of soft tissue tumor-
-like Fibromatosis (Desmoid tumor) of the tendo-aponeurotic portion of the Tendo-Achilles(locally recurrent but benign tumor)
-NeuroFibroma /Shwanomma of the nerves in the area,
-Neurolipoma of the soft muscle tissue,
-Histiocytoma / or /Ganglion Cyst of the synovial sheath of the Tendo-Achilles.

-Get FNAC biopsy done - of this left calf lump to rule out any Sarcomatous / malignant or Benign Nature of the lump and needs to be kept in mind for clinical and academic planning while treating this case of your's.

Hope this extensive list briefed above, would help you to plan further treatment and would give you the line of further investigation, which you should plan with your doctor, during the impending doctor's visit you have planned.

ALERT-
Don't get worried by the above reply, as till the time Histopath report comes, get relaxed and keep me updated on it, if need be.

Welcome for any further query in this regard, which could be replied in the next session,if you need it.

If you find yourself satisfied with this reply, I would appreciate you, to write excellent feedback comments on my hard efforts and service, just to help the needy patient visitors like you, to my HCM clinic services.

Keep me updated on the further progress, after the MRI and FNAC Biospy with Hisotpath study, if need be. I would try my best to help you out of this left calf soft tissue?-lump problem, which is amongst - one of the rare lumps in medical history.

Good Day!!
