Suggest Treatment For Lump In My Left Breast Area

default
Posted on Thu, 15 May 2014
Question: I am a 59 year old male recently discovered a grape size lump in my left breast. It is not pain-full at all. There is no discharge from the nipple. There is no discoloration around the breast area. There is no dimples. The lump does not appear to be attached to anything, just a round ball that can be moved. Unsure how long I may have had this since I am not in the habit of checking that area. I am going to get this checked out by my doctor just to be sure one way or the other. What do you think this my be?

Brief Answer:
Gynecomastia.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Most likely this is a gynecomastia. Due to some hormonal stimulation, for some reason your breast tissue is growing and can be similar to women breast tissue.
Gynecomastia can be the first symptom of testicular cancer (please check your testis for palpable tumor). Testicular cancer is responsible for about 10% of all gynecomastia cases (so it is rare factor). Other, more frequent reasons are obesity, liver cirrhosis, hyperthyroidism, hormonal active tumors.

Breast cancer is also possible and needs to be ruled out.

I suggest you to do not wait with it. Please visit your doctor and have an ultrasound of the breast and testis at first. If gynecomastia will be confirmed, you should consult oncologist.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
