Suggest Treatment For Lump In Lower Back

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Feb 2015
Question: Hi... I had developed a lump in the lower portion of my back some six months ago. Initially it was very small and was m not creating any issues. But since few days the lump got bigger and started paining. I visited a neurosurgeon for this and underwent a MRI..The result showed that there is a sebaceous cyst in the region. The doctor has asked me to get the cyst removed. Since few days the size of the lump has significantly gone down and has stopped paining. But I am not sure whether it will increase again.I am also not very keen on undergoing a surgery for this. Is there any other solution for this?

Brief Answer:
Sebaceous cyst needs surgery.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms and MRI findings.

Sebaceous cyst needs surgery and it can not be treated by medications.

The surgery for this condition is simple& safe, however, you can wait for sometime. The surgery is not urgent.

Also, sebaceous cyst is a benign condition, and if it is not troubling you and there is no pain, you can wait and watch.

I hope it helps.

I was only worried because of my medical history. I have spinal bifida as well. Also I face severe acne(cyst) problems in the chest and armpits...should I consult a dermatalogist before surgery ? Also is there any laser treatment available for this?..and in the meanwhile can I run and play?

Brief Answer:
Sebaceous cyst is superficial.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

Sebaceous cyst is superficial, and is located in the skin, whereas spina bifida is located deeper. So, this sebaceous cyst would not interfere with spina bifida.

Acne should be separately treated and you can consult dermatologist for the same.

There is no laser treatment for sebaceous cyst.

You can run and play.

Thanks sir,

I will get this removed.it pained a lot over weekend. I have few other queries(other than this)

I usually get legs pain when I play a bit or a bit stressed(appear for interview, work pressure) and my body catches fever. Is this something to do with spinalbifida or is it just too much of anxiety? Any thing which can be done to overcome this?

Answered by Dr. Sudhir Kumar (6 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Anxiety could be the cause.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

The leg pains are most likely due to anxiety. Reducing anxiety would help.

Also, taking vitamin B12 supplements would also help.
