Brief Answer:
can have low back pain with constipation

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
Because the colon runs along the back wall, if you are severely constipated sometimes you may have some low back pain with the constipation.
It is unlikely that this would cause pain up into the shoulder blade.
The low back pain and shoulder pain may both be unrelated to the constipation as well, it is sometimes hard to tell.
If you have a lot of stress sometimes the paraspinous muscles (muscles along the spine) can get into a spasm and then cause pain all up and down the spine. That can radiate into the shoulder area.
Now that you are moving your bowels try to find a regimen of food and fiber that will keep you from getting constipated.
Use heat and anti-inflammatory medicine for your back and shoulder pain. Do gentle stretches on the sore muscles.
I hope you are feeling better soon,
Dr Robinson
