Posted on Wed, 13 May 2015
Question: Having low grade temperature 95.5-96.0 sweats, throwing up and diarrhea. This has been going on since March 20th. I've been to the emergency room three times, each time they checked my for different things. Last wed. found a doctor who really tried to figure out what was wrong. She took blood, urine and immediately started me on fluids, she also gave me five different vitamins directly into the liquids. she said I was extremely dehydrated and I needed potassium, magnesium, and three other vitamins that my body was depleted in. One difference these past four days is that I have a low grade temp. All the other days my temp has been 101. I've been on the brat diet and followed her instructions to the letter. Extremely nausiouis, headache, anything liquid or canned pears and peaches take about 10 minutes to come out one way or another. Also, Can,t sleep, I'm cold the I'm hot. I'm shaking and disoriented. the emergency room has a 6 hour wait and I am worried.

Brief Answer:
Acute Gastro enteritis with severe electrolyte imbalance.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your query and concern.

Your symptoms are suggestive of Gastro-enteritis with severe electrolyte imbalance.

I advise you to repeat complete blood picture, serum electrolytes, chest x ray, urine routine examination and stool culture.

Meanwhile you need antibiotics like Tab.Orni -O twice daily for 5days,Tab.Pantop-D once daily before breakfast, ORS sachets 3-4 daily, IV fluids and electrolyte supplements.

Take 3-4 liters of water per day and fluids like Butter milk, coconut water, fruit juices daily.

Once electrolyte abnormality detected it should be corrected and then serum electrolytes should be repeated.

Post your further queries if any,

Thank you.
