Question: Hi, My father is 86 years old and has atrial fibrillation . He is also supposed to get an operation for Zenkers diverticulum in a few weeks. He was just admitted to ER for severely low blood pressure, low urine output, reduced red blood cell count and very bloated. He has been on a peg tube for last 8 weeks until he can repair his zenkers . HIs blood pressure goes higher once he is on IV's but as soon as they take him off his blood pressure goes back down to 70/40 or lower. His doctors in hospital have not been able to figure out what is going on as of yet. Can you help!? Thank you!!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

What is happening may be associated to Zenkers diverticulum complicaton. Zenkers diverticulum is associated with dysphagia which may be responsible for electrolyte disturbance which may be responsible for BP liability.

Moreover these symptoms may also be related to:
- Cardiac failure
- Anemia
- Kidney failure

This is why it's essential to do the following examinations to find out what is happening to him:
- Blood work
- Abdominal ultrasound
- Cardiac echo
- Chest x-ray
- Blood gasometry and astrup measurement

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!
