default
Posted on Mon, 5 Dec 2016
Question: Hi, My 6 Years 9 months daughter is suffering loose motion for past 45 days. We have tried with many good doctors and but every one says nothing much to worry. We did a normal stool taste and there was nothing and doctor prescribed medicine for 5 days. Many a times she is alright and goes only for 2 times a day. After few days again she goes for 5-6 times a day.

We did a culture test and result is something like this:
CULTURE and SENSITIVITY TEST [STOOL]:(Culture)
Gram stain

Growth Observed No enteric pathogens isolated

Doctor has prescribed Syp-Oflox Oz, 100 mg for 5 days. 5ml-0-5ml

Any suggestion from Pediatricial will be extremely helpful

Thank you so much for the help.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I understand the dismal situation that you are in. Indeed ORS or Pedictral is the mainstay of treatment and would help in replenishing the lost water and salts. But that would not make the loose motion stop. I would be glad if you could upload the full report. I am looking for the presence of undigested matter and reducing substances. Their presence is likely to indicate malabsorption. In that case restriction of gluten (wheat related products) and milk should help. Giving Lomotil (Diphenoxylate and Atropine) should help. Another alternative is Imodium (Loperamide). Please decide on its use only after discussing with your treating physician. Zinc supplements like Zinconia should be given for 10 days or so.

Let me know if I could help further.

I have uploaded the recent report which we got today and previous report as well. The date mentioned in the reports will help you to find out the order of report and medication she has already taken.

Today we got the culture report and Doctor has prescribed the medicne as well (Syp Oflox Oz, 100 mg) which is attached. We have not started the medicine and looking for second opinion.

Hopw this will help you to suggest us.

Thanks and Regards, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
I will not suggest antibiotics.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. I have checked the attached reports and prescriptions. I do not think that Syr. Taxim O or Syr. Oflox Oz have any role to play and I would advise against their use (assuming that you have not started them yet).

The reports do not show the presence of pus cells or vegetable matter. Presence of reducing substances has not been tested for and I would suggest for reducing substances in stool to be tested for.

I have already given my suggestions in my previous communication.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
