Question: Hi Doctor, I'm a 27 year old female that is suffering from extreme pain on both knees. It all started this past March when I was sitting down at a restaurant and couldn't get back up, my right knee locked! I couldn't bend or straighten my leg. The pain is still constant and now my left knee is hurting as much or worst than the right one. I have my MRI report from the right knee and it concludes: -Small effusion -No meniscal tear -Note is made of myxoid degeneration in the substance of the ACL -Low-grade chondromalacia along the medial patellar facet with a mildly thickened medial plica. I've already been to 2 orthopedic surgeons and I'm hoping to get a 3rd opinion since both doctors said two different things: First doctor recommended to do: a) therapy and cortisone shot for the pain b) laser surgery arthroscopic knee surgery Second doctor recommended: Exercises to strengthen the muscles and knees I'm looking for the pain to go away and not come back in the future. I want to be able to get back to the gym, run, dance, etc... I've been depriving myself of even walking because it hurts so much. I can't even go up the stairs to my own home that's how bad the pain is. Please help, I don't know what to do? If I do decide to go with the surgery, what are the pros and cons? is this a guarantee that pain will go away forever! Oops forgot to mention that 1st doctor recommended either A or B

Brief Answer: Description below. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for your query. Main cause of your locked knee and pain is myxoid degeneration of substance of ACL. I am agree with the recommendation given by the 1st doctor. Treatment of ACL mucoid degeneration by surgery (arthroscopic resection) is effective for pain and flexion limitation. Cons of surgery is postoperative laxity, but rarely in XXXXXXX instability. I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care

Hi Dr., Thank you so much for your prompt reply! I feel at ease now knowing that 2 of 3 Dr.s agree on a solution to this problem. One last question, can supplying or injecting plasma in the knee help the regeneration of the tissues, tendons and ligaments affected? Do you recommend my orthopedic surgeon do this? Thanks again!
