Suggest Treatment For Left-sided Flank Pain, Arthritis Of Hip And Vitamin-D Deficiency

Question: I'm a 58 year old female. I have been having bad left side flank pain for years. I am also having sciatic pain in my butt and down leg. Also, discomfort in my left groin area. I have quivering at times mostly in back. At times the left side of my face is kinda numb.Everything is on left side of my body. I also have a nerve electrifying sound in my head. I know what hearing loss sounds like and this is different. It could be from a medication, I guess but it's more like nerves. I lost my husband 6 years ago to prostate cancer. After his death, I fell and broke my left leg straight across in 2 places. I went through breast cancer treatments (left side) right before he was diagnosed. I had surgery, chemo, radiation, 5 years tomoxifen and 2 years arimidex. I have hypothyroidism/hasimotos disease. I also have prephial neropathy. I have had MRI for side pain and found multiple tarlov cysts in S level, a narrowing and 2 bulging disk. I also had CT scan (mild hip degenerative), blood work and urine. The doctors said were ok. I also had colonoscopy. I had an epidural L4 and it didn't help side pain at all. I have seen a Chiropractor and he fixed my back but it didnt help flank pain.I have been going to a massage therapist and she said pain is coming from QL muscle.I'm currently seeing her 1x a week. I've seen Neurologist and just gave me pain meds. I've tried percocet, oxycoton and didn't help the pain. Norcos and ice work to take edge off. I'm exhausted all the time and becomin confused a lot. A few doctors have said radiation damage and some say they don't see any on test. My oncologist said my blood counts are showing signs of Leukemia but he wants to wait until my numbers are higher for the bone marrow biopsy and he's confused about the pain too. My last visit with him 3 months ago my blood work was worse but he thinks it could be from the epidural.I see him every 3 months.I am on Synthroid, Neurontin, Cymbalta and Norco. I also take B12 injections 1x a month.I believe this pain began after I broke my leg and continued to get worse over the years. I live alone and have responsibilities which I can't do. Could you give me any suggestion on what I should do? My past surgeries were breast cancer, 2 c-sections, broken leg, and gallbladder removed.

I see my Oncologist every 3 months. He said the breast cancer has not metastized. I will try to send blood test reports. The leukemia was from the result of a fish test. The doctors checked my organs and everything checked out ok. What about the left flank pain? I will get my blood report and send it.

Brief Answer:
arthritis of hip joint or PID

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am

Thank you so much for your reply. Left flank pain could be due to any of following
- degenerative disease for hop joint or arthritis of left hip joint
- renal stone
- PID
I would order for an X ray of left hip joint and an ultrasound abdomen plus pelvis to narrow down the cause. You should consider discussing it with your doctor. In the meanwhile, the following measures may help you.
- have plenty of fluids
- add milk and diary products to your diet
- you can ask for calcium and Vitamin D3

Hope this address your question

The CT just said MILD hip degenerative. I've had xrays and they didn't show anything that would cause the flank pain. I was checked for renal stones and there is not any. My doctors don't know why it hurts so bad. I don't want pain meds I want to know what is causing it. I take calcium and D3. However, I can't eat much dairy because I'm lactose intolerant.

Also, the doctors checked for pid. Could it be fybromqlgia?

Brief Answer:
Fibromylgia is very unlikely

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am

thanks for replying again and keeping much faith on our services.

By your medical history, it is obvious that your left flank pain is due to degenerative changes and arthritis of the joint.
it might be related to disc bulge also.

in my opinion, fibromylgia is very unlikely because it manifests as pain at multiple site for at least 3 months duration and affects both sides as well as above and below the waist.

Hope this addresses your question
if you have any more health related issues please write to us i will be happy to help you

What about pinched nerves seeing how the ql muscle is so tight? What did you see from my latest blood results?

Hello, my time isn't up yet, correct?

Brief Answer:
blood reports suggestive of mild infection or inflammation in hip joint.

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am

thanks for your reply
Pinched nerve along with peripheral neuropathy might be responsible for your pain which is constant pain present through out the day and intensity of pain increases after exercise.

your blood reports are suggestive of mild infection or an inflammation which might be there in hip joint I would advise to repeat it now and get your calcium and vitamin D3 assessment

After seeing all this, there is a one more possibility that is avascular necrosis of head of the femur

in my opinion you should visit a orthopaedician for MRI Hip joint which can locate the pinched nerve as well as a muscle disorder

I think I found it and made an appointment with Ortho doc... Do you think since I have had it so long that it could cause damage to other parts of my body? http://thewellnessdigest.com/quadratus-lumborum-muscle-low-back-hip-buttock-groin-pelvic-abdomen-pain/ Thanks...

Brief Answer:
damage to other part of body is less likely

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am
thanks for your reply
I am happy to know that you have booked an appointment with orthopaedic doctor and I hope you will be alright very soon

In my opinion it should not affect other joint
if it is generalised degenerative changes then there are chances of other joint involvement

as far as quadratus lumborum muscle is concerned you need not to worry it will be OK once you get the treatment for inflamed hip joint

Hope this addresses your question
thanks a lot
