Suggest Treatment For Large Bruise On Knee

default
Posted on Tue, 9 Dec 2014
Question: I fell 5 days ago and had a large bruise on my knee. I had no real pain until today unless I pressed on it. Now it is stinging and the blue discoloration has gone down to my ankle and it hurts when I walk. I am not sure if it may be infected or I may have something more wrong with it than a bruise. It feels warm but not hot to the touch. The discoloration is from my ankle to my knee and covers my entire shin area and stings whether I move it or not.

Brief Answer:
You need to get an X-ray of the area done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us

Since the bruise around your knee is painful, a bone injury is likely. You need to get an X-ray of the area done. MRI is the best investigation to diagnose the internal knee joint structures injury. Till then avoid weight bearing on the knee and keep the leg elevated on two pillows.

Hope this helps you. Let me know if you have any more concern.

Wishing you good health...
Regards.

I just do not understand why it was not painful until the swelling was down and why the stinging is all the way down to the ankle.
