Suggest Treatment For Lack Of Appetite And Reddish Color Urine

Question: Hi Doctor,
I went to a preventive health checkup and found out that I was having High Cholestrol (Total = 227 and LDL=170). So the doctor put me on Rosuvastatin 10mg for 3 months. After 2 weeks on this medicine, I felt dizzy, weak with dark reddish colored urine. My apetite was also coming down. So I stopped the medicine and did a Lipid profile again. The total cholestrol was down to 102 and LDL to 43. Even after stopping the medicine (this is 4th day), I feel dizzy and weak so I did an LFT. In Lft, all parameters are normal except Bil Direct which is 0.25 (3 weeks ago it was 0.20). Is there anything wrong ?

Brief Answer:
Unrelated.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.
This doesn't seem to be related to your lipid profile.
However one can have some dizziness as a side effect of Rosuvastatin.
Your Bilirubin is also normal and the rise is insignificant.
I would recommend you to carry on with Cinnarizine for a few days.
Your Initial lipid profile doesn't warrant immediate use of Statins for cholesterol control. You can go ahead with life style modifications like Exercise and low fat diet.
I hope it helps.
If you have any further query, please ask me.

Thnks doctor for letting me know that I can safely be off the statin even though it has been only 2 weeks that I have been on it. I do not want to be on any medicine for life term and am willing to make lifestyle changes.
The doctor prescribed a dose of cinnarizine 25 mg twice a day ? Should I continue with this dose or reduce the dose ? I do not want to have further side effects caused due to usage of any other medicine.

Can I also have a few alcaholic drinks on weekends with Cinnarizine ? Will it have any side effect ?

Brief Answer:
Life style modification.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
In my opinion you don't need any particular medicine for cholesterol as discussed not even the lower dose.
As far as cinnarizine is concerned it is a very safe drug and can be stopped once you feel that your dizziness is all gone.
You should avoid alcohol with Cinnarizine as can cause sedation.
Alcohol otherwise also should be avoided in your case when you need life style modification to control cholesterol without medicines. Alcohol is a very strong cause for rise in cholesterol.
I hope it helps you.

Thanks Doc. One last Query.
I have read that HDL is Good Cholestrol and have noticed that in my case the HDL has reduced from 38 to 31 and is on the lower side. Is this a cause of concern ?

Brief Answer:
Life style modifications.

Detailed Answer:
Yes HDL is a good cholesterol and in case it's reducing, it needs attention by lifestyle modifications only. No medicines are indicated.
Dietary modification is the only way out required for you.
I would advise you to:
1.Reduce your weight.
2.Avoid Fatty food in diet.
3.To consume potato, rice, oil, ghee, sweets, carbonated beverages in moderated amount only.
4. Avoid alcohol and smoking.
Get your lipid profile repeated after 3 months and write back to me with reports.
This is my best opinion for you.
You should discuss my opinion with your doctor.
Stay healthy.
