Suggest Treatment For Knee Swelling

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Oct 2015
Question: I have slight swelling in and around one knee, which doesn't hurt but definitely doesn't feel right either. What is it? What should I do for/about it? I am an active 70-year-old man but I've stopped exercising at the gym because I don't want to aggravate the problem. Please explain/advise. Thanks, XXXXXXX XXXX

Brief Answer:
You may be having knee synovitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. I think you are having knee synovitis. In this condition there is collection of fluid in the knee. This causes swelling and pain in knee joint. It is caused by knee arthritis, over work or trauma to knee. I would suggest you following.
1.hot water fomentation
2. voveron gel local application
3. compression bandage
4.Avoid squatting and sitting cross leg.
I hope this answer will be useful for you. let me know if there is any other followup questions. thanks

I have begun treatment but am not at all sure how long it will be before I get positive results. Do I need to generally rest my knee, or may I resume (moderate) exercise at the gym, which has valuable overall benefits for me? How much of the time should I wear the compression bandage (knee brace)?

Brief Answer:
You should wait for some weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Knee synovitis needs some rest and so avoid any gym activity for two weeks. Even after that do not do any squatting and cross leg sitting. Hot water fomentation. I hope this answer will be useful for you. let me know if there is any other followup questions. thanks
