Question: My mother aged 85 is under medication & is being given following medicines: Glizid M ( one tablet on alternate day) Nitrest (Once daily after dinner)- started about 20 days back She is bed ridden for last more than 3 years due to knee shrinkage. We are using adult diapers for her but she tears it off after 2 to 3 hours. She keeps on calling in the night which results in our sleeplessness. This problem has aggravated in last one & a half month Can you guide me?

Brief Answer: ...... Detailed Answer: Hi there. Thanks for writing in... I understand how sad and frustrating it can be to see your mother in this state. However, the current situation requires a lot of patience and hard work.. Also if she has been bed ridden for this long...almost 3 years... you have to watch out for bed sores or pressure sores. If you find it difficult to manage the condition at home, try to get help like a home nurse who will also help in taking care of her. Try to get a wheelchair for her ; since she cant walk....and take her out on the wheelchair everyday....(depending on the area you live) ...if it is a good complex with a lot of greenery and fresh air, she might enjoy it.... See if you can get a physiotherapist to come home and show her a couple of exercises...or help her to gradually be mobile. Hope my answer was helpful to you . Regards, Dr. Divya Kuttikrishnan
