Suggest Treatment For Kidney Infection While On Levoquin And Amoxicillin

default
Posted on Mon, 18 Jul 2016
Question: My daughter is 16 years old. She had a bad kidney infection was hospitalized twice. Went through Bactrim (she had an allergy to), Levoquin & Amoxicillin (diagnosed with a strain of Ecoli). 2 weeks later she still has abdominal and lower right flank pain daily (it's not too bad most of the time, but sometimes it gets really bad). She gets nauseous and also said her heart beats really fast sometimes. Trip to the Immediate Care showed protein in the urine at 100, and also some 'particles'. She's had the particles since before her infections was diagnosed. Wondering if we should wait until next week to see her GP again, who would refer us to a nephrologist they said, or if we should go to an ER sooner. The last two trips to the ER they did ZERO ultrasounds, CT can, lower gi, anything like that--only blood and urine tests. They said she did not have bacteria in her blood. Thinking this could be kidney stones? Some type of kidney disorder? She has no fever. White cell count good. She has cheer camp 3 days a week and wonder if strenuous exercise is ok? What are your thoughts? Conflicting things to do for diet and fluids based on kidney stones vs. kidney damage/disease.

Brief Answer:
There is no cause for concern

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Ms

In the absence of fever , normal urine and blood investigations there is unlikely to be cause of concern. Presence of protein without associated white blood cells or bacteria in urine is likely to be due to stress proteinuria.
You can wait to see your GP. In the meantime one recommendation will be very helpful: Ensure intake of Plenty of oral fluids. It is recommended for to consume atleast 2 litre of water.
Avoid diet high in Calcium and oxalates like spinach , tomato.

Only way of excluding renal stone as cause is Ultrasound abdomen.

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take Care
