Suggest Treatment For Jock Itch

default
Posted on Thu, 4 Feb 2016
Question: I have had a mild case of jock itch for too long over the past 6 months and I have been avoiding to see a doctor. I have tried Tinactin and other sprays with little long term success. I have been pretty good about good hygiene. If I go to a doctor what will they most likely do? Will they give me a medication to kill the possible infection? I don't have any visible redness or anything. It gets annoying almost everyday for a little bit. The area is right between my scrotum and inner thigh and is in other closeby areas.

Brief Answer:
Start with oral and topical antifungals

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
I have gone through your complaints and according to me you should start with oral and topical antifungals as they will lead to permanent cure.
These will kill the ringworm causing fungi.
If I were your treating doctor I would recommend you to take tablet terbinafine 250 mg once daily in the morning along with application of sertaconazole cream on the affected areas twice daily. For itching take antihistaminics like tablet levocetrizine 5 mg once daily at bed time.
These are prescription medicines and you need to see the doctor in person to get them.
Besides this keep the area dry, avoid sharing soap and towel, wear cotton underwear and stay in cool environment.
I hope to have answered your queries.

Dr Asmeet
