Suggest Treatment For Itchy Scrotum And Pain In Perineum Area

default
Posted on Tue, 11 Oct 2016
Question: Hello, I am a 21 year old male and I am mildly obese. I have a question in regards to the perineum region. For the past few months my scrotum has become very itchy on occasion and this has radiated to my perineum. I assumed it was from not drying properly after bathing. I have exfoliating gloves that i have been using in the shower to relieve the itching and then have been applying baby powder after drying to keep the area as dry as possible. This seemed to help providing some relief, however I recently noticed that my perineum is now red and painful, with a dark purple bump a few centimeters below my scrotum. I assumed the bump was a cyst (I frequently have small sebaceous cysts on my inner thighs), however it is more painful than a cyst. I have also noted some bleeding from the bump. I am just wondering if this is possibly a hemorrhoid or hematoma, or if it could be an abscess forming and if I should see my doctor? I'm a bit shy about seeing my doctor (she is female and I have never asked a doctor about anything regarding my genitalia etc.) and would prefer to avoid that route if possible. Also I do not suspect that this is sexually transmitted as I have not had any sexual relations in about 14 months.

Brief Answer:
two things going on

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
It sounds like you have a yeast infection in the genital area. Trying to keep the area dry is a good idea but the baby powder may be irritating this.
You need to get an antifungal cream like lotrimin or terbinifine and use that on the area to cure the yeast infection.
The dark purple bump could be a hemorrhoid if it is near the rectum. It could also be a small cyst. If that is the case it should go away on its own.
Also please consider letting your doctor look at this. Female doctors look at male genitalia all the time as part of their job. Alternately you could ask her if she could make you an appointment with a male colleague if you are too uncomfortalbe.
I hope you get some relief soon,
Dr. Robinson
