The rash started two weeks ago as a mild to moderate rash on my buttock.

Over the past two weeks the itching has spread to my groin and underarm area. It also has me scratching my inner arms and other parts of my torso.

The rash varies from 'red in color' on my arms and torso, to a 'dark discoloration' in my groin.

The itch is currently moderate and occasionally severe (when I scratch).

I have not started any new medications and the rash itch does not wake me at night.

What steps would you recommend I take to get rid of this?

Brief Answer:
Points indicate towards fungal infection: Various suggestions

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome back and thanks for posting all the details.

After analyzing your complete query with diligence, all the points indicate towards fungal infection of the area.

Fungal infections are common type of infections which more commonly affects the areas which are more prone for sweating or moist areas (as in your case). More specifically these are related to the hygiene and environmental factors. Additionally persons who have bit excess of sugar are also prone for the growth of fungus.

For the betterment kindly follow the suggestion below and instruct your attendant or nurse for following:

- Keep yourself away from hot and humid climate.

- Take daily bath or atleast get your body mopped two times with clean towel.

- Wear cotton clothes and cotton undergarments to be changed two times a day. Do not wear any synthetic or tight garments.

- Do not remain continuously in a single posture for long hours. I can understand your condition of quadriplegia but it is important to avoid excess moisture. Ask your attendant to do the same.

- If I were your treating dermatologist then would have suggested to apply plane anti-fungal creams such as “Clotrimazole” or “Ketoconazole” or "Sertaconazole".

- If I were your treating dermatologist then would have suggested to take oral anti histamine like loratadine or levocetrizine two times a day for itching.

-Don't try to scratch or rub the area as can lead to further aggravation of the problem.

- You can use any good antiperspirant powders daily to avoid future infection. I further suggest you to get your blood sugar checked to rule out any increased sugar level.

I hope this information will help you.

"Wish you good health and early recovery from the problem"
