Suggest Treatment For Itchy Rash On The Lower Abdomen And Knee

Question: Have had an itch rash now for 3 weeks. Lower abdomen and side of knee has merged into a huge red patch that seems to be yellow underneath. Elsewhere it is to side of both armpits and on lower legs and back of groin. Local doctor has given me antihistamines and steroid cream ,neither of which seem to be working. I have had a chest infection a few weeks ago. Also had blood test ( result not back yet) but huge bruise on my arm where the test was taken. Can you help please.?

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be due to bacterial skin infection like impetigo. It can be a secondary bacterial infection after fungal infection also. If you send a picture of it then it will be more helpful in identifying.

Blood routine will can give signs of bacterial infection by giving a neutrophilic leukocytosis. Blood culture also should be done.

Systemic antibiotics will be helpful in such case. I usually recommend cefdinir or Co-amoxiclav orally or cefotaxime as injection for such case.

I also recommend Ointments with combination of antibacterial like ofloxacin and ornidazole, anti fungal like terbinafine and corticosteroid like clobetasol for local application.

Chewable vitamin also will be helpful for fast recovery. Blood sugar level should be checked also because this condition usually occurs in low immunity conditions like in diabetics.

Thank you for your diagnosis. Have tried to send you a picture. Hopefully will the blood test I had show if it is a bacterial infection or will I have to have a different one done . It's not easy with our Doctors to get more done. Can I get said ointments over the counter or on prescription..

I have seen the picture. It looks like a bacterial infection.

The blood test will show signs if there is infection. Ointment i mentioned is usually available on prescription only. It is available in brands like panderm plus. You can ask your local doctor for prescription for this.

A consultation with a dermatologist is well appreciated for this in case there is no improvement.
