default
Posted on Tue, 23 Aug 2016
Question: My scalp gets really itchy sometimes. From last 8-9 years i'm having this formation of white dead skin on my scalp which causes itchiness and then i have to remove it by scratching my head. My shoulders are mostly carrying the dandruff and this dead skin which sometimes have caused lot of embarrassment. Anti dandruff shampoos dont help either. Plz suggest what to do to get rid of this problem. I spend hours scratching my scalp and removing the dead white skin.

Brief Answer:
Management of seborrhoeic dermatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
I am Dr Asmeet Kaur Sawhney, a dermatologist.
I have reviewed the attached photographs and you are having seborrhoeic dermatitis.
If I was your treating doctor I would recommend you to use a ketoconazole shampoo twice weekly and apply lotion containing beclomethasone and clotrimazole on the affected areas of the scalp twice daily.
Besides this take capsule itraconazole 100 mg once daily in the morning and tablet levocetrizine 5 mg once daily at bedtime for atleast 3-4 weeks.
Since seborrhoeic dermatitis is a chronic disease so medicines need to be continued for a long time but under the supervision of the doctor.
These are prescription drugs and you need to see the doctor in person to get them.
Regards
Dr Asmeet
