Suggest Treatment For Itching In Scrotum And Penis

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Sep 2015
Question: Too embarrassing to go to the Dr. Already tested negative to all STD's. I've been itching my scrotum, penis, for 6 years now off and on already been to a dermatologist who diagnosed fungal. With bleach baths and some ointment. It always goes away but cones back 2 to 4 times a year last year my penis secreted this sticky substance that caused intense itching for over a month so bad my penis swelled and was inflamed it seems the urgent care and dermatologist can't decide if it's bacterial or fungal any thoughts ?

Brief Answer:
Fungal infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query.
Your symptoms are suggestive of fungal infection.
Fungal infections are usually recurrent due to incomplete treatment.
The response to treatment is very fast and as soon as the medications are stopped the fungus re grows.
I treat such cases with a combination of oral and topical anti fungals.
A combination of tablet fluconazole and clotrimazole powder works well.
I advice the medication for complete two months even if the rashes heal early.
This helps in complete cure and prevents recurrence.
You can try this in consultation with your doctor.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you.

Instructions and Handouts
Tinea Cruris (Jock Itch)
Your exam shows you have a common, superficial fungus infection of the groin area. Jock itch causes a pink, scaly, itchy
rash on the inner thighs and groin. It is made worse by moisture and friction.
Treatment requires that you keep the area clean, dry, and free from friction. Wear loose fitting cotton shorts, be sure to
dry well after showering, and wash all soiled or sweaty athletic shorts frequently.
Use anti-fungal medicine such as Exelderm, Lotrimin, Loprox, Micatin, Oxistat, Naftin, or Tinactin twice daily until all
symptoms have been gone for at least one week. Do not scratch the area as this can damage the skin further.
See your doctor if you are not better within one week.
NOTIFY YOUR DOCTOR right away, return to ZoomCare, or go to the Emergency Department immediately in case of
the following:
• Fevers
• Worsening redness
• Worsening of your condition or your general health

Brief Answer:
Itraconazole is a good therapy in resistant cases

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the follow up.

It seems to me that you have probably developed an infection with a highly resistant strain of fungus.

Such chronic cases respond well to capsule itraconazole.
I know yet another drug is not always the best thing to take in all situations, but in this case it could be highly effective.

I suggest you to give it a try in consultation with your doctor.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you.

Ok thank you, i will discuss with some Dr, as I do not have one. I have a few dermatologists that may write that prescription for me. I used Zeasorb last night and this morning, and so far so good, should i still try and get the prescription for the itraconazole? and do the capsule & Powder combo? How long should i take the capsule? again, this has been going on back and forth for 7 years now, and has pretty much left me with no sex life and misery, and major depression.
