Suggest Treatment For Itching And Irritation In Labia

default
Posted on Thu, 21 Jan 2016
Question: Hello,

I am having this irritating stinging and itching on the labia and around the clitoris but on the vestibule. I also feel the same itch and burning on my inner tighs. It has been like that for few weeks already. My doctor gave me canesten cream and pills, because she believed it is an yeast infection. However, this treatment didn't help at all. The interesting and odd thing about that itch and sting feeling is that there is no rash, no redness, no pimples or any visible sign of irritation whatsoever. Everything looks perfectly normal. I don't have any abnormal discharge either...The only thing that helps relieve the itch is applying calamine lotion and itch is gone, but if I do not apply it all symptoms appear on full force again.

Brief Answer:
Strong probability of an infection with irritant response

Detailed Answer:
My Dear Madam,

Thanks for contacting this portal.
I am Dr v XXXXXXX a Sr Consultant Dermatologist. I have studied your query and all the details and will strive to help you get durable relief from the problem.

I have seen your previous record as well to see if that in a anyway helps in better understanding of the current episode.

Collating all the facts, I am of the view that there is an element of infection which surrounds the hair follicles, particularly after shaving the area and constantly keeps on irritating resulting in symptoms as detailed.

I would suggest you to take up following measures:

1 Maintain high level of hygiene by repeated washing and drying while avoiding harsh chemicals including soaps and disinfectants

2 Mupirocin cream as an antibacterial

3 Levocetrizine or a comparable anti-allergic to relive itching as per needs

4 Loose undergarments

5 Avoid other medications

I am sure these measures will help you and good results will become evident in a few days

I will be glad to offer any further help should you need it

Accept our best wishes and have a great time.

Thank you

Hi,
Thank you for your response.
I agree with you that there is something that irritates, however I cannot pinpoint what it is. I never had any problem like that and I have always kept high level of good hygiene practices.
This problem occurred suddenly out of nowhere. I haven't been sexually active for few months, so doubt is anything I got from previous sexual activity.
Also, it does feel like it is dermatological problem with the skin because there is no irritation in the vagina or around or any pain there.
The infection of the follicles makes a lot of sense, because it seems that that the irritation aggravates after shaving regardless what shaving cream I use.
Thank you fro the bactroban suggestion, I will ask my doctor for prescription. She is on vacation, so is there any over the counter solution that can get me through the next couple weeks until I see my doctor?
Thx

Brief Answer:
Mupirocin or Bactroban is OTC product

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam

Glad to receive your query.
I checked online and found that Bactroban which contains Mupirocin is available for OTC use at several stores including Walgreens.
I am sure you can utilize this information. Another option is to use Fusidic acid cream. That also is a good antibacterial substance.

Let me know if I can help you in anyway.
Best wishes
