Question: Hello,
I have attached reports of my Dad's tests done recently. he has been having fever between 99-101 degree since last 2-3 weeks. Almost all tests seem normal. Can you please have a look at the reports and advice? Maybe our family doctor must have missed something and also please do try to give a solution to this problem. this website is not allowing me to upload more reports. only 3 reports are uploaded. lemme know how I send you the other reports.

Brief Answer:
I think the cause of fever could be developing jaundice.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX I have seen the reports
Your father has anaemia, his CRP is raised (indicates some inflammation in body),
his liver is affected--SGOT-109, and kidney is affected--urine shows protein, and creatinine is slightly raised.
Does he have any other problem except fever?
What about Blood pressure?
What about Diabetes?
I think the cause of fever could be developing jaundice.
Please revert back.

Brief Answer:
I am sorry. I read it as 109. So it is normal.

He does have beginning of renal failure due to Diabetes.
I think your doctor may give an antibiotic course for the fever irrespective of cause, since no direct cause is revealed.
Please take care of his blood sugar well to avoid progress of renal failure.
Please revert back.

Ok thanks a lot for the advice Doc. Just couple more questions if you dont mind. Current 3 months diabetes is 5.8. earlier had gone upto 7.5 and then Dad has been controlling his sugar/ food intake. What does High CRP indicate? its 22 and it should be in the 1-5 range. and in his LFT Gamma is at 109. is that a worry too? And creatinine is 1.47

Brief Answer:
It is good you are managing his Diabetes well now.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

It is good you are managing his Diabetes well now.
Hope he is on Ace inhibitors to reduce protein loss in urine and renal failure.
CRP is C reactive protein and it goes up whenever there is inflammation in the body. Hopefully it is related to the fever and should come down with an antibiotic course.
So SGPT is 109--it indicates liver is affected and you do see it in Diabetics who have fat accumulation in liver.

If he is obese he must lose weight and correct diet to bring down fat accumulation.
His doctor mught like to give him Silymarin for this.
Yes creatinine is slightly raised--it indicates Kidney involvement.
Hopefully with proper control of Diabetes it should come down.
Get his urine microalbumin and e-GFR done. That will tell us where he stands.
And make sure he drinks lots of water.
