Posted on Tue, 17 Jan 2017
Question: I was getting fever very often in past two weeks. fever comes & goes. I had gone to my family physician. fever used to reduce after 2-3 days & I used to get fever again.

I again went to the doctor day before yesterday. he suspected Typhoid & told me to take an injection for three days. I started taking it day before yesterday & I should take it till day after tomorrow.

pls look at the attached images. I have attached doctor's prescription & clinical report of blood count & serology report. pls suggest.. should I continue the injection suggested by the doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

Thanks for uploading the image.

Cefotaxime has been advised for treatment. It is the correct option of antibiotics. However both dose and duration prescribed are incorrect.

1 g twice a day for minimum 7 days is usually required. It can be extended to more than 2 weeks in severe infections.

I would advise you to consult another physician and continue the medication.

For diagnostic purpose, blood and stool cultures should have been done prior to starting antibiotics.
