Suggest Treatment For Intermittent Fever And Chest Pain In Child

default
Posted on Mon, 13 Jul 2015
Question: My son is 5 years old. He suddenly started with a fever since the last two days ranging between 99 to 100. The fever was intermittent. Day before yesterday he had a temperature in the morning which subsided with crocin and the body felt slightly warm thoughout the day. I gave him crocin twice more after keeping a 6 hr gap. yesterday he had temperature only in the morning and it increased a little at night. He has no cough cold. Is this normal due to a weather change. Also yesterday night he complained of chest ache. Since it was late night I gave him a concoction of fennel seeds and jeera. He passed some gas and was then fine. He is complaining of tummy ache today. I suspect indigestion Is there any cause for worry?

Brief Answer:
It seems to be a mild viral infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to the HCM

I completely understand your concerns but don't worry. Your child seems to be suffering from a viral infection. You may take the following measures to help him:
1. Use acetaminophen or crocin at 15mg/kg (max dose 500 mg) for fever episodes if the spikes are more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit. You may repeat the dose at 6-8 hours interval if fever persists. If it's less than that, cold sponging will be helpful. Fever is a defense mechanism of our bodies against infection. So there is no need to treat low grade spikes as they are helpful at times.
2. Give him a dose of Syp. Albendazole 400 mg at night. This is for worm infestation which is a common cause of tummy aches and uneasiness at this age.
3. Keep him well hydrated by regular feeds and oral rehydration therapy such as lemonade, soups or butter milk. If diarrhoea episodes occur, also start ORS available OTC.
4. Give him T. Lanzol junior for gastritis episodes. You have to give 1 tablet (30mg) before breakfast.

Hopefully this will help you. In case of any further questions, I will be happy to help you.
Take care
