Question: What can I do about an ingrown toenail that seems to have caused swelling and redness and pain before I can get to a Dr,?

Can you please attach a photo of it?

The main reason why the ingrown nail causes the pain and swelling is compression of the tissues. So the best way to get rid of the symptoms is partial nail removal ( just a part which causes the compressiom, not the whole nail).
You need to visit a surgeon to have it done.
