Suggest Treatment For Infectious Mononucleosis Infection

Posted on Mon, 30 Mar 2015
Question: My granddaughter has been diagnosed with mono. She's had symptoms since at least January of 2015, maybe even longer since she's been sick & missing lots of school since it started September 2014. She's still sleeping a lot & still having low grade fever on a daily basis with bad headaches & stomach aches. Ibuprofen & Tylenol don't seem to do much to help. She's always pale & has lost a lot of weight. Is it normal for these systems to last this long? I read the other day that there is a parasite that actually can cause mono or mono like symptoms. Is this factual?

Thanks for posting in Health care magic.

Infectious mononucleosis is common in this age group and causes profound fatigue and occasional fever. the symptoms may last for months. In some cases it may last for 10 - 12 months. There is no specific treatment for it. Children usually grow out of it.

Give her plenty of fluids and good diet with some daily exercise.
Dont give tyienol unless temp is more than 100 F.

thank you
