Suggest Treatment For Infection Of Wound After A Leech Bite

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Sep 2015
Question: My friend had recently complained of Leg pain(in the left foot) after a leech bite during a trek. On consultation with a dermatologist, he was informed that the leech had infected tapeworm eggs during its encounter.
I have attached the pics of the same. He has pain walking, the leg looks swollen and dry externally, but there is pus formation internally in the swollen areas. Offlate, he has been tearing off the skin in the swollen areas and removing the pus and then applying the cream. Is this the right way of applying medication? Is there an alternate way of getting rid of the worms? What other precautions should we take? Please advice.
The following medicines were prescribed by his doctor:
Clonate-F cream, Tab-Dolo and DTD plus

Thanks in Advance.

Thanks for posting your query.

Personally I don't feel its a worm infestation. The presence of pus indicates its a bacterial infection .

What your friend needs is a thorough opening up of the wound and drainage of all the pus. When the pus is being drained out , a test called Pus culture sensitivity test. This test will let us know which is the right antibiotic for the foot infection.

Once the pus is drained out he can get dressing done for his wound every 3 days once for 2-3 times . Once the Pus culture sensitivity test report comes , antibiotic as indicated by the report has to be used.

But till the report comes Soframycin Cream can be used over the wound while dressing the wound.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask.
