Suggest Treatment For Increasing Aortic Aneurysm

default
Posted on Sat, 26 Jul 2014
Question: I have an aortic aneurism last cat scan on April 15th it measured 4.7 c in length & 4.3 in circumference. Two months later it grew to 4.85 c in length. They did not tell me what the circumference was. When first discovered in 2010 it measured 3.4 c As of late, the last month & present I am feeling a Loy more discomfort in that area, as well as back aches, headaches, on some pain from time to time in my lower groin area, left side. All of my medical is with the VA Hospitals. I will have to choose between going to XXXXXXX Or. VA, or to LaJolla, Ca. VA. Even though I am having a lot more discomfort, I can't speed them up, because of not wanting to do any surgery until it reaches 5 centimeters. Naturally I am concerned & worry it may rupture & I may not get to a hospital on time. Any suggestions? YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
surgery would be better

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic .

If a patient comes to me with these symptoms I would suggest them for surgery. Usually in asymptomatic patients we wait till it reach 5cm size. Any size with symptoms needs to be operated.

The reason for suggesting surgery are
-the size is progressively growing so it is sure it will cross 5cm soon.
-after crossing 5 cm chances of rupture increases.
-the symptoms like back pain or abdominal pain are sign that rupture may occur anytime(impending rupture).

So I advice to reconsult your vascular surgeon whom you have ready shown and discuss about your symptoms and need for surgery .

If you go to new hospital without previous reports again they will get all investigation done. This will waste money and time too.

Among sugery I would suggest to go for endovascular procedure which is safe and effective.

Hope I have been helpful . If any further queries are there I would love to help ..
