Suggest Treatment For High Fever, Headache And Rashes In A Child

Question: My 13 year old daughter came home from school and said she felt chilly all day. I took her temperature. It was 101.3. She also reported symptoms of a headache this morning and her back hurting (although she said that could have been from playing volleyball (a new sport to her) yesterday). I gave her Tylenol. She also said that she was so tired today that she could barely stay awake during two of her classes. We ate dinner and now it has been a couple of hours since she came home. She took a shower and then came down and showed us a slightly raised rash that was on the back of her legs and on her buttocks from her knees up (bilaterally, symmetrical) She said it was itchy. We gave her 10 ml of Benadryl. She is lying on the couch. I have three kids and they have had a lot of different illnesses and fever episodes and I don't recall ever seeing the fever with this type of rash. The rash is red, slightly raised, diffuse, but separated.
It's been about 20 minutes now since the Benadryl and she is on the couch doing OK. The rash seems slightly improved, but what could these symptoms point to? She was in CT in the middle of July for a girls camp and they did warn us about Lyme Disease. But her rash is not consistent with Lyme disease. Is there a possibility that this could be Lyme Disease? What other symptoms go along with that?
I can take her to the pediatrician tomorrow, but I'm a little concerned now but also not to the point where I think she should go to the ER.

Brief Answer:
Most probably allergic reaction(Urticaria)

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank You for contacting HCM. My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. The symptoms you gave are going more in favor of allergic reaction. Reaction could be due to any cause like dust, pollen, insect bite, etc. It usually takes few days to resolve. Most common symptoms of lyme disease includes: bull’s-eye rash, erythema migrans, joint pain & neurological symptoms. Following measures will help:

- cetirizine suspension one at night for 3 days
- wash her clothes & bedding thoroughly.
- avoid scratching else it might leave scar.

If condition remains same or aggravates then she needs to see a "Consultant Dermatologist".

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!

But what explains the fever? Allergic reactions don't trigger a fever (maybe mild, but 101.3?)
