Suggest Treatment For High Fever And Sore Throat
Question: My son, 25, started last week with 103.2 temp, sore throat. Dr said prob viral, could be mono but cultured only for viral. Feels somewhat better now, 8 days later;however is still maintaining a temp of 100.4. He is eating OK- seems lethargic to me. Complaining always of a bad headache-taking advil constantly. Has said his neck ached from the beginning but is not stiff. he is seeing dr again tomorrow. your thoughts please?

I read your question and i understand your concern. feeling pain in neck and slight fever on 8th day of illness with viral probles and high grade fever and sore throat is just a sequelae and an improvement towards recovery. All the boy needs is some more rest, a viral infection takes 2 weeks to clear symptoms completely, advil and supportive care till then, he may take 3 to 4 advil along with some home remedies like salt water gargles for sore throat, neck muscles gentle massage, warm comforting beverages like herbal tea mixed with honey and rest for a while. There is nothing to worry about. He is already on the path of recovery and till sunday he will be up and running i promise.

I seriously doubt that to be a viral meningitis. Dont worry that presents quite differently. Its just a sequelae of sore throat and sligt rest and supportive care will sort it out. Just hang in there.
