Question: I'm a female of 44 years . Right noaw suffering from high fever with running nose and head ache. went for blood test and teh PLOYMORPHS is 88% and esonophilis is 8% What does this mean

1)Heamoglobin - 12.4 gm/dl
2) PCV -39.4%
3) T.RBC - 4.42 Millions / Cumm
4) WBC Count - 6000 cells / cumm
5) Polymorphs - 88%
6) Lymphocytes - 08%
7) Eosinophils - 01%
8) Monocytes - 03%
9) Basophils - 00%

PERIPHERAL SMEAR
10) RBC : Normocytic, normochromic
11) wbc : Neutrophilia
12) Platelets : Adequate with normal morphology.
13) P.Vivax - Negative
14) Falcifaram : Negative
15) Dengue NS! : Negative

Thanks for writing back. The WBC count is not raised. Therefore the relative neutrophilia (polymorphs) is possibly just reactionary. Possibly it is just a viral infection. Such infections usually have an allergic component and that is the likely cause for the rise in eosinophil count. Overall it is not a cause for concern. You should take some antiallergic like cetirizine once daily. Take paracetamol or acetaminophen to bring down the fever when needed. It may take 5-7 days for recovery to occur. Please be patient till then.
