Question: Hi doc,
I m suffering from typhoid for past 4 days. I got diagnosed with the ailnment after fever of 102.8. But, now i don't have fever though i have pain in my leg muscles. Is this normal???I'm tired of sitting n sleeping. I try to walk but can't do it for long tym, like half an hour. Also, my palatelets count dropped to 1.30 and also RDW-SD counts higher to 52, ideally should fall between 39-46. I don' t understand RDW thing properly, even after I Google it.
First day, I was on drip(2.5 bottles) and also 2 injections yesterday, one in morning n one in evening. For today, he said there is no need of injections, only take medicines namely Rabesec-D SR, Cefix-O and Nimrest Plus alongwith a tonic Lycovis Syrup.
Dehydration, sweating is there. He asked me not to have chapatti.
I just want a second opinion if the treatment is right or do I need to consult some other doctor?
How much time does it take to cure typhoid?
Can I have packed soups from market or do I need to prepare them at home. I don't eat much from outside, right now it's completely banned.

Brief Answer:
Treatment is fine.

Detailed Answer:
HI

Thanks for posting your query.

See , typhoid infection can be sometimes more energy draining causing extreme weakness . The same is happening for you and there is no need to worry. As of RDW is concerned just don't worry about that, it shall normalise by itself after a week or two.

But a low platelet is not something common in Typhoid and is bit of concern. I recommend you to repeat Platelet count again and revert back with report.

As of treatment is concerned it is absolutely fine and the fact that fever has subsided indicates that treatment is working well . Just that weakness and dehydration is still persisting you can ask your doctor to IV Fluid ( Drip ) one bottle a day for 2 more days . This shall help you in feeling more energetic .

Most of the time it takes 4-6 days for recovery from Typhoid but in some it may take even 10 days. But don't worry . Just take rest and hydrate yourself well.

As of diet is concerned I strongly recommend you to avoid any outside made food .
