Suggest Treatment For High Fasting Blood Sugar Levels

Question: I am trying to understand my blood sugar and have been for a while.
I became aware that my fasting blood sugar was high when my wife had spill over and they wanted her to check herself for a week. She was scared of the needle so I showed her it was no big deal. To my XXXXXXX my glucose was around 120(can't remeber exactly).
I was concerened and am a medic so I did some glucose reaserch on myself and noticed my response to ingesting food or even straight glucose is fairly normal but my morning readings without eating were high.
I even spoke with my doctor about it and she wasn't really concerned and told me to cut back on sugar.

Heres the glucose trends I have found when monitoring myself:
my 1 hour post prandial ranges between 100 - 165 depending on what I eat or drink. A normal meal will almost always be 140 or less.
my 2 hour is always below 140 and ranges between 110 - 130 90% of the time as well.
my 3:00am glucose is around 90-100. Again, depends on how much and how late I eat and how early I've been waking up.
My 2 hour postprandial after eating dinner is always in the 90's

So I have a few things I've got questions about:
1 - I wake up early and if I wake up around 4am or 5 am my glucose is high.
2 - by 7:30am or 8:00am my glucose is 110 or lower.
3 - I don't eat meals during the day but drink gatorade or soda and only eat 1 big meal at night.
4 - if I do eat breakfast lunch and dinner my fasting glucose is around 100 to 110.

this leaves me with some questions:
My questions are:
1 - if I test my glucose when my liver is dumping sugar early in the AM to start my day, could I have a higher reading?
2 - Can not eating meals during the day cause my liver to store up more sugar resulting in larger glucose dumps?
3 - if my wake up time varys between 4am to 6:30 am, when should I check my glucose?
4 - why does eating multiple meals during the day lower my morning readings?
5 - If I do manual labor my fasting readings are much lower the next day, why?

when my morning sugar is high at an hour it's below 120 and at 2 hours below 110. this is without eating.

so, could much of this be testing at wrong times and due to how I eat (kind of liquid fasting type diet)?

From your result, I can deduct that you don't have diabetes mellitus but a fasting blood sugar level from 100 to 125 mg/dL (5.6 to 6.9 mmol/L) is considered prediabetes. This is sometimes referred to as impaired fasting glucose (IFG). You have some suspect fasting glycemia that can be attributed to prediabetes.

1. In my opinion your high glycemia at 4-5 am can be due to stress hormones (adrenaline, cortisol etc.) the are released at this time, because is a stress for your body to weak up so early and the result is high blood glucose.

2. I don't think you have problem with your liver metabolism and the meals doesn't affect your glycemic results.

3. You should check your blood glocose after you fast for at least eight hours or overnight for an exact fasting glicemia.- You should wake up at 6:30 am, to check your glucose.

4. Eating multiple meals during the day and 5. doing manual labor makes easier for your body to manage the glucose coming from the food and your morning readings can be normal.

So if I test during gluconeogenisis my reading will be high? I was concerned about my basal insulin response.
I am not sure if you still get a rise and fall with liver dump like you do with meals.

Hi

If you are worried about your basal -insuline ,you can ask to your doctor to do the fasting insulinemia test alone and in conjunction with the glucose tolerance test (GTT).
In this situation, blood glucose and insulin levels are measured at pre-established time intervals to evaluate insulin resistance.
(actually you might have a slight insulinoresistence)

But in my opinion a healthy lifestyle is all you need to stabilise the slight fluctuations of your blood sugar levels during the early morning.

This means:

1. Don't stay without food during the day and only eat 1 big meal at night but eat every day ,3 meals and 2 little snack between them or chose to have several small meals during the day.
In your case your morning normal-high values can be explaned with a slight hypoglicemia during the night that cause a morning high blood glocose.For this reason i suggets to have a slight snach before going to bed(a fruit is OK)

2. Have a healthy diet.If you are obese or overweight you should chose a hypocaloric diet.
Choose food that contains minimal amounts of unhealthy fats.
Select foods that are low in both sugar and highly refined carbohydrates.
Eat a variety of different whole foods instead of eating processed foods.

3. Fit more exercise and physical activity into your daily routine.
Go to the gym 3 to 5 times per week.Go for a jog or for a walk. Make sure that you move at a moderate pace for at least 30 minutes.
You can also incorporate more activity into your daily routine by taking the stairs instead of the elevator,ditching your car, parking farther away from shops, and taking a quick walk on your lunch break.

4.Avoid Unhealthy Habits like drinking a lot of gatorade or soda during the day.

5.Don't skimp on sleep.
Studies have shown that those who sleep less tend to weigh more. Adults should aim for between 7-9 hours of sleep per night.So don't weak up too eary.

Making lifestyle improvements may require some gradual adjustment, but improved health is readily accessible once you commit to it.
So, i'm sure that if you try to adjust your lifistyle,you will boost your metabolism and your actual blood glucose situation will reverse.

That's weird you say hypoglycemia.
My grandfather, mother and brother have hypoglecimia. When they eat sugar their levels go up really fast and then drop low.
I do notice in the evening that before I eat diner my glucose is always in 70's, sometimes even below 70.

I'll do some modification and see what happens
