Question: I have had high blood pressure for years its runs in the family I was on Diovan for years but the Veterans Admin won't give it to me. They switched me to Losartan/Hct 12.5 mg since on this my blood pressure is staying 150 over 90/95 and all I do is pee. I went to Cardiologist and noticed I have fluid (little) around the heart and it feels heavy and my chest area aches. He also did a Sonogram and said I have hardening of the walls of my heart. I could loose 30 lbs quit eating salt I need advise. Not happy with new med's

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your hypertension, I would explain that if your blood pressure values stay over 150 mm Hg there is a need for blood pressure therapy optimization .Increasing the actual antihypertensive drugs daily dose, or additional/ substitution of other drugs could be an option.

Could you please explain which is the actual daily dose of losartan and HCT that you are taking?

Regarding your actual complaints, it doesn't seem that uncontrolled hypertension is the only responsible.

Pericardial inflammation and a possible cardiomyopathy may be important reasons if your symptomatology.

Please could you provide me with your recent cardiac ultrasound reports?

Could you upload it here, so I would be able to give my professional opinion?

What about other performed cardiac tests?
I am waiting for your detailed information.

Hope to have been helpful!

Best regards!

Dr. Iliri
