Brief Answer:
Diabetes

Detailed Answer:
Sorry to hear about your high glucose reading.
Kindly recheck to confirm this is a consistent reading

If still high, Emergencies such as this are best dealt with in the Emergency department.

I train my patients in dealing with these situations as part of ongoing diabetes self management skills. How to deal with high glucoses is one of the items we teach.

There is no generic answer and the management depends on individual circumstances.

This is how I have trained my patients to deal with this:

1 Go to ER immediately

2 Until then take some Novolog and check fingerstick glucose on the meter after 3 hours

3 How much Novolog is dependent on several factors and each individual is given a scale by me that varies from 4 to 20units

4 drink plenty of water.

5 Increase the novolin dose by several units. Again how much will vary from person to person

I am sorry I have not given you exact doses because a) it can be harmful without knowing your long term diabetes history to do so and b)it is not the purpose of this forum to make precise dose recommendations without having the opportunity for in person examination and follow up

I strongly recommend going to the ER to rule out acute complications like DKA (Diabetic Keto Acidosis) and HHS (Hyperglycemic Hyperosmolar State)
