Suggest Treatment For Herpes

Question: Thank you for your help. About a 3 weeks ago I started dating this girl. The day after we kissed for a long period of time, I noticed some very mild but noticeable difficulty swallowing. I still am experiencing it. I have no other symptoms.

Yet yesterday, while driving, I felt this strong discomfort/slight pain right under my chest, centered on my torso. Right this minute, it just feels like a heaviness and discomfort. I felt this all night. I feel better when I lie down.

I am a 48-year old male, 5-7, 170, work out, eat right most of the time, fit, and don't have a bad habit (except for rarely sleeping) like smoking and I don't drink much.

The pain under my chest is more pronounced yet just one of two issues.

This may or may not matter about the swallowing. My girlfriend told me she broke up with her last boyfriend because he gave her herpes. She is devastated. She is very health conscious, a sweet woman and I'm not sure if that played into my throat issue or not.

This is not related to my question but she and I are not being intimate. She respects my apprehension.

Thank you,
XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
suggest ekg, echocardiography

Detailed Answer:
Hi ,
I am Dr Mittal. I have read your query.I think I may be able to help you.

First, I am not sure that your symptoms are due to the kissing. The symptoms are probably psychogenic, ever since you heard about the herpes.

Herpetic neuralgia doesn't work like that. There are rashes and the pain is radicular and frankly very painful.

However, I think I should tell you that I have never attributed a symptom to psychosis directly. I feel that the patient has been truthful about the symptoms and so I am going to suggest some tests. Please understand that the test are simply to make sure that your symptoms are not misunderstood.

I am going to suggest an ekg and Echocardiography. While the tests are awaited, try some proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole for a few days. The combination will make sure that cardiac and gastric systems are evaluated.

I hope that I have been clear.
Feel free to contact me for further information on a related topic.
Best of luck.
Dr Mittal.

Hi.

What could be causing the unusual feeling in my throat?

The discomfort below my chest I plan on monitoring for a day or two before seeing a doctor. Yesterday was the first day I felt it. I just started a cleanse and maybe I took too much.

Brief Answer:
Anxiety could explain both

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Anxiety can cause both the problems.
Therefore, I had said that the problem could be anxiety related. The tests are just to rule out more severe conditions.

Best of luck.
