Suggest Treatment For Herpes With Eyelid Dermatitis

default
Posted on Sat, 12 Dec 2015
Question: I have been diagnosed with herpes simplex eyelid dermatitis, but my upper eyelid is not involved, just below my eye is. Originally the dr. thought it was shingles because it is in the same area where I had shingles many years ago. Next dr. said it is not shingles but herpes simplex. I think it is spreading has turned red and I now have a sore in my ear (same side of head as sores). Should I go back to urgent care or just forget it? I have not been given a prescription for antibiotics but feel I may need it.

Brief Answer:
If this is herpes then antibiotics won't help. You may need antivirals

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to HCM: Please note that if this infection proceeds to the inner of your eye then it is an emergency as you could lose your eyesight. If there is pain developing then rush to the ER. Otherwise, I would favor a true diagnosis with blood work to make sure that this is truly herpes. Thanks..

Was told it is too late for antivirals so should I just give up and hope I don't get any more sores?

Brief Answer:
As long as you do not get any more sores you are okay,

Detailed Answer:
however, that is only for shingles, for herpes, depending on the number of times that you get outbreaks, the antivirals may help suppress this. But antivirals also have side effects and can affect your liver, so as long as you are symptoms free I would not bother much.
