Question: Hi. I had a series of test from my neurologist that included a carotid Doppler sonogram, MRI of the brain and lumbar. The results were I have a herniated disc and epidural thickening. My dr wanted to repeat the MRI with contrast but I had to get blood work done to check the creatine level in my kidneys. I did not repeat the test to date since I was not given the results of the blood work. The PA that called me was vague. How serious is epidural thickening?

Brief Answer: Follows. Detailed Answer: Dear Madam , Thank you for posting your query on HCM. Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that the herniation of disc and epidural thickening are significant when clinical features are supportive of them like if you are getting numbness or pain or tingling sensation etc in your lower limbs . They basically reduce the space from which the spinal nerve roots are passing so if it is there is thickening it will get more reduced . It can be better seen on contrast enhancement thats why they have recommended that for you . Take care. Dr. Shruti
