Suggest Treatment For Hernia

Question: Can exercise ever strengthen the stomach wall area enough to reverse a small hernia, or prevent is from getting worse? I usually begin an exercise program involving aerobics and light weights in January that I do until May. I started this past week even though I have a small hernia. It has not gotten any worse as a result. I am contemplating surgery to repair the hernia, but do not want to do this if it is not necessary. You thoughts please.

First of all it is important to distinguish if you have a real hernia or just diastasis recti (abdominal muscles separation which is not a real hernia).

Very often, surgeons think that such diastasis is a hernia, which is a mistake. In case of this condition there is no hole in the abdominal wall. Just its weakening. And there is no need to perform surgery. Muscles training can decrease such diastasis.

If you have a real hernia, physical activity wont close it or decrease it. Moreover it can cause its enlargement. In such case, surgery is a good idea, however still not an obligatory procedure.
