Brief Answer:
Pls start now; chances cant be predicted; yes

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. I shall surely respond to your query in the same order requested:

1. I would recommend initiation of therapy with interferon and ribavarin at the earliest. Hep C is an infection which causes damage to the liver sir. The longer treatment is delayed, the more damage the liver suffers. Sadly, if the symptoms began in your wife then liver damage has already begun. So I would strongly recommend against waiting for a year for the new drug, during which severe damage can occur.

2. Sir, chances are purely individual-specific. This means that each person responds differently to therapy. Some individuals sucessfully get rid of the infection, whereas in some individuals the treatment only helps to slow down the progression of liver damage. So I will not be able to accurately provide you with a percentage. But I can surely tell you that the disease progression will certainly be slowed

3. There has been extensive research in this field, but with no conclusive results. A number of women have sucessfully had children and healthy ones, whereas, a few have resorted to adoption. The most important information I feel you need is know is to make sure not to get pregnant during the course of the treatment and for a duration of about 4-6 months after completion of the course as well.

Once this duration has passed, you can start trying to conceive and hopefully all goes well. I hope you find my response helpful and informative sir. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I would be more than happy to help you.

Best wishes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again sir.

Once a question is taken up by a doctor, another doctor cannot answer it sir. If you wish, you could write back to me with the question and I shall be more than happy to help you with all the knowledge that I have from the field, or you could post another question requesting for a gastroenterologist.

I hope this helps you sir. I am always here to help you.

Take care.
