Suggest Treatment For Hemangioma In Mouth On Upper Lip

Question: hi my 5 month old daughter has a hemangioma in her mouth on her upper lip. one dr advised to use an oral propranolol. my Peds is concerned about the side affects but said if we insist he will prescribe the propranolol Are they something to worry about ? Is this a good treatment? What are your thoughts? Thanx XXXXXXX

Welcome to healthcaremagic
Whether to observe or treat hemangioma depends on its location.In your daughters case if it is outside lip then we can wait and watch.But if it is inside mouth then it will require immediate treatment.
Propranolol has shown good results in infantile hemangiomas.But side effects like hypoglycemia, bradycardia,hypotention.asthma needs to be monitored.
Because of side effects I am not in 100% favour of propranolol.Vincristine is good option
Surgery is most definitive treatment
