Suggest Treatment For Heart Palpitations

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Jul 2015
Question: I am a 25 year old male and recently lost about 60 lbs over a year and a half (with caloric reduction etc). I am still overweight at 5 feet 10 inches and 220 lbs. My weight loss has stalled and I was hoping to add exercise, but I get heart palpitations at rest (diagnosed as PVCs). I had a normal stress test a year ago but haven't done anything more strenuous than walking since. My cardiologist doesn't believe I need any more tests to begin a slow jogging regiment and doesn't want to do another stress test. Is anything else warranted or can I begin this exercise? I still get palpitations I can feel 3-4 times per week, usually when anxious. I really want to get into better shape so any information would be helpful! (Other tests I have had include echo and stress echo in 2014, 24 hour holter, and 30 day event monitor)

Brief Answer:
Following advice.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

After reviewing your medical history I would like to say that your heart was normal functioning and you don't need to repeat again cardiac tests.

As long as the tests were normal you can safely increase your physical activities, this will be of help in stabilising your palpitations to.

Please keep in mind that PVCs are a benign arrhythmia that unfortunately doesn't completely go away and you will experience from time to time palpitations. Apart from discomfort they never are harmful.

My suggestions are:
- eat often and small portions
- avoid alcohol, caffeine and energy drink
- increase physical activity very gradually
- add magnessium supplement
- use fresh fruits juice reach in vitamins and minerals.

A good start to increase activity is to start with fast walk for 1-2 weeks, then run for 2-3 months and than you may start jogging.

Hope this was of help!
Wish you health!
